We're honored and excited as part of our occasional FILMMAKER Q&A series to have writer M.A. Fortin with us to discuss the movie he co-wrote The Final Girls.

The Final Girls is a meta-comedy-examination of the 80's Slasher genre, most notably nodding to the shocking beloved 1983 slasher classic Sleepaway Camp (which we show second). On the third anniversary of the death of her "Scream Queen" actress mother, Max and her friends somehow use a machete to cut a hole in a movie screen and step "inside" an actual slasher.

The movie examines, celebrates, satirizes all the tropes that made 80's slashers the rage with giddy teenagers across the nation.

Mr. Fortin will discuss the twists and turns and all the ups and downs of getting a great script to the screen.

We follow the Q&A up with the 1983 Sleepaway Camp which writer/director Robert Hilzak has kindly allowed us to screen on the condition we give away several pairs of free tickets. Thank you Mr. Hilzak!

Sleepaway Camp almost tells you its story in its title. A bunch of people are gonna get murdered at a Sleepaway Camp . What the title doesn't tell you is that it has one of the most shocking (to this day) twist endings of all time. So impactful in fact, it was the inspiration for a whole new movie (The Final Girls).

So if you like your slashers slathered in both meta-interrogation and gore, laughter and screams, you gotta spend the night with us. . .if you dare!

Best always,

Craig Hammill
